Force India driver Giancarlo Fisichella has hinted to Ferrari that it would be a "dream come true" if he were to somehow drive a Ferrari at the Italian Grand Prix, should they, y'know, happen to have a car going spare for the race.
Ferrari, along with most of the rest of society, are currently unimpressed with stand-in driver Luca Badoer's performance for the team in Valencia. The Italian test driver has been earmarked to fill in for the injured Felipe Massa until the Brazilian regains full fitness, but rumours are now abounding that another poor performance from Badoer in the Belgian GP this weekend will see the Maranello team replace their replacement in time for the next race at Monza.
Should that happen, the rumour mill has linked fellow Italian Fisichella with a guest drive at his home race.
"I think there is a lot of rumour and I have seen my name on the top of the list everywhere," Fisichella beamed prior to the start of the Belgian GP weekend, "But Ferrari didn't call me so for me it's nothing.
"If they had called me I could say something more, but I have not contacted them. I'm a Force India driver, it's as simple as that."
Despite admitting that there had been literally no contact between himself and the team, that didn't stop Fisi from stoking the flames of the rumour for himself.
"For sure, it's a dream for all the drivers," he said when asked if he would like to drive a Ferrari at Monza, "Especially for me, as an Italian driver, let's say at the end of my career, so it's a very good opportunity. It would be nice.
"I have 220 grands prix so far, it would be very good pressure for me. It's not a big problem, it would be a very good opportunity but so far I can't say anymore."
Despite coveting Badoer's seat quite openly, Fisi did take time to affirm that he believed the under-pressure Ferrari man would perform better at Spa.
"I thought Luca was able to do much better than that, even though he didn't drive in the last few months, and he didn't race since 1997," he said, confusing 1999 with 1997 as he did so, "But he was struggling quite a lot.
"Obviously there was a lot of pressure for him with the new circuit and everything. Probably here is going to be better, but he needs to do a big improvement compared to the last race."
