Kubica is "officially on the market"

Polish BMW driver Robert Kubica is officially after a new job, according to his manager, after the announcement from BMW that they will be leaving the sport at the end of the year left the future of the team uncertain.

The announcement yesterday means that the future of the team formerly known as Sauber is up in the air. Although the Formula One Teams' Association has said that it will do everything in it's limited power to ensure a new owner is found, a la Brawn GP, how easy that will be in the current economic climate is unclear.

BMW has yet to make any firm statement on whether it will seek to sell the team, nor what will become of it's staff.

Although Kubica is contracted with the team until the end of 2010, the fact that the team may not exist next year has caused his manager Daniele Morelli to issue the F1 equivalent of a "come and get me" plea.

"There was no sign inside the team that something like this could happen. We take note of it," Morelli told the Italian press, who interrupted him when he was halfway through composing Kubica's Gumtree advert, "Robert was under contract until the end of 2010, but now he's officially on the market."

Kubica has raced with BMW since 2007, and was the test driver for the team in 2006. Last year, his remarkable form attracted rumours regarding a switch to Ferrari, though it remains unclear how badly his stock has been affected by his dire 2009 form with the team.

Rumours that BMW's other driver Nick Heidfeld has been spotted posting a CV to the DTM's head office have yet to be verified.
