The much-anticipated entry list for the 2010 world championship has been released. All eight FOTA teams unsurprisingly make the cut, while the new teams for 2010 will be USF1, Campos Meta1 and Manor Motorsport. Who nobody has ever heard of.
The official list will look to end the shambolic situation surrounding the 2010 season, though five of the current teams have only been granted "provisional entries" for next year, and the FIA has told them to lift their conditions on their entry submissions by June 19th in order to stay on the list. And if you're not on the list, you're not coming in.
Ferrari, the two Red Bull teams, Williams and Force India have all been given full entries, the latter two having provided unconditional entries before the deadline, while Ferrari and the Fizzy Pop Conglomerate both signed deals with the FIA years ago which apparently ties them to the sport whatever happens. This is likely to produce a slightly different subject of dullard moaning, particularly from Ferrari who claimed earlier this week that they could not be forced to remain on the grid.
That leaves BMW Sauber, Renault, Toyota, Brawn GP and McLaren as the five teams who will need to drop their demands by next Friday (and it is always a Friday) if they want to compete in 2010. The FOTA teams originally signed up on the condition that the FIA's two-tier budget rules were dropped and a new Concorde Agreement signed.
Added to the current grid, the three teams chosen to join F1 in 2010 were USF1 (unsurprisingly), Campos Racing (rather surprisingly), and shock choice Manor Motorsport, whose entry is doubly surprising given that there had been literally no sign that they were anywhere near submitting an entry in the first place. This team, which has tasted success in F3, will be headed up by team boss John Booth and former owner of the glamorous Simtek team Nick Wirth.
Added to this trio of new entries, who will all use Cosworth power in their first year of turgid backmarking, the FIA is believed to still be in discussions with "three to four" other teams, should any of the five provisional teams fail to drop their conditions.
In the statement that the FIA fudged out to go with the fancy list, it said: "Five teams have submitted conditional entries. The FIA has invited them to lift those conditions following further discussions to be concluded not later than close of business on Friday 19 June."
So F1 another week of posturing over these provisional entries. And the fans will continue to provisionally not give a flying one.
