Vettel set to win by several laps

E-mail Print PDF

The fuel load information would have made for terrifying reading for people who weren't Sebastian Vettel after qualifying at Silverstone, as it dawned that the Red Bull man had claimed pole position despite having the heaviest car.

Vettel's fuel load, coupled with his pole position, is fearsome for the race tomorrow. The German should not be in for fuel until around lap 21, later than some of the drivers outside the top ten who were allowed to refuel after qualifying.

Mark Webber's load shows how much his error on his penultimate lap, and Kimi Raikkonen's blocking on his final lap, hurt him, with Webber qualifying in a lighter car than Vettel for the first time this year, but ending up behind him on the grid, and with three laps less fuel. He does, though, have an extra lap on second placed Rubens Barrichello.

Kazuki Nakajima will be the first scheduled stopper, after the Japanese man had his car fuelled using a mouse's teacup, while championship leader, and home bandwagon favourite, Jenson Button, looks to have little tactical advantage. He starts 6th with the same strategy as his second placed team mate.

Elsewhere, both Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen didn't qualify at the back of the top ten shootout because they were heavy with fuel, merely because their cars are awful.

Further back, it is Giancarlo Fisichella's turn to get the optimistic light fuel Findia strategy, and Heikki Kovalainen will start the race driving the Torrey Canyon.
