As expected by Patty and literally nobody else, an agreement has been reached by the FIA and FOTA over the ongoing breakaway crisis. While details are scarce it seems the provisional entry list will stand, while Max won't be running for re-election later in the year as part of a deal to keep F1 wholesome.
The agreement isn't entirely official yet, however it appears that there will be a single championship in 2010, a glide path reduction of costs, a new Concorde Agreement lasting to 2012, a new FIA president and a partridge in a pear tree. Meetings between Mosley, Bernie Ecclestone and Luca di Montezemolo held overnight were the catalyst for the change in heart from the protagonists.
Events were leading up to a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council today, but it seems that discussions there will be limited to the menu at next seasons FIA gala now that all the 'interesting' politics is over.
Of the deal Mosley rambled "We have agreed to a reduction of costs. There will be one F1 championship but the objective is to get back to the spending levels of the early 1990s within two years." before triumphantly tooting "There will be no split."
It will be FOTA who will be feeling victorious though, having met their primary goal of ousting Mosley from the top position of worldwide motorsport, however a feeling of 'believe it when we see it' is permeating it's way around Patty HQ at the moment.
While Mosley will definately be seen as the loser out of the standoff, as ever it is the sport and the fans who will ultimately feel cheated. The promised reduction of politicking, ticket prices and races held at Tilkedomes is unlikely to occur now and the status quo is expected to remain over the points that people actually care about. You know, the racing bit.
Full statements from both parties and the 2010 entry list are expected soon.
