New teams roll in on deadline day

Prodrive's early announcement of their entry submission was added to by announcements from Lola and Litespeed, as the new teams face an anxious wait to see which of them will be chosen to complete the 2010 F1 grid.

With USF1 and Campos Racing already signed up, and Prodrive's entry lodged late last night, the new potential entries for F1 2010 continued to come in on the final day before the deadline for entries expires.

Lola, who raced in F1 in a pitiful way for a single qualifying session back in 1997, confirmed that they had submitted an entry under the new rules, but remained tight-lipped about the details, saying that no further comment would be forthcoming from them until the final entry list was made public on June 12th.

They were joined by British F3 team Litespeed[sic], who expressed an interest in joining under the new budget cap regulations with the help of F1 multi-failure Mike Gascoyne. Litespeed[sic] seem to have gone as far as sending a deposit to Cosworth for a supply of their new-for-2010 customer F1 engines, while team boss Nino Judge affirmed that the squad are "extremely serious" about entering F1.

"I can confirm that we will be filing our application to the FIA today for entry to the 2010 F1 championship," Judge shouted at anyone who was prepared to listen, "This is an extremely exciting time in the history of F1 with the changes in technical and financial requirements.

"We have lodged our deposit with Cosworth and are extremely serious and excited about this venture. We wish all teams the very best whilst the decision process is taking place and look forward to the potential of being on the grid in 2010 and beyond."

The five new entries will compete for the three available slots on the F1 grid, assuming all ten current F1 teams stay on for 2010. How the continued confusion over the size, extent and application of any proposed budget cap will affect their entries is as yet unclear, but all five are unlikely to get close to FOTA's planned 100 million Euro cap for 2010.
