Disturbingly-staring Spanish driver Jaime Alguersuari has confirmed that a race deal is in place between himself and the Scuderia Toro Rosso team for 2010, ensuring parity for the Red Bull B team on the driver front next year.
Alguersuari, who looks a bit like he should be starring in a US teen drama, made his debut for the team in last season's Hungarian Grand Prix, replacing Frenchman Sebastien Bourdais, to become the youngest ever F1 driver.
Although he had never driven a full lap in an F1 car before his debut, Algie acquitted himself relatively well, albeit failing to score a point, with a best finish of 14th in Brazil.
And he has now confirmed that he has done enough in the eyes of the team to earn a full season deal for 2010, where he will again partner 2009 Rookie of the Year Sebastien Buemi.
When asked if a 2010 race seat was guaranteed in an interview with Marca in Spain, Alguersuari replied "Yes. We signed a couple of months ago." Possibly saying it while staring at someone a bit weirdly.
Buemi's 2010 deal was confirmed a while ago, and it was believed that Alguersuari's place with the team might be under threat, especially if either World Series by Renault driver Brendon Hartley or Formula 2 'ace' Mirko Bortolotti impressed enough in the upcoming Young Driver test with the STR squad. But a deal is now seemingly in place.
The news means that Toro Rosso are only the fourth of the 13 teams set for the 2010 grid to confirm both their drivers for the new season.
