Stefan GP still looking to next season

The mysterious Serbian Formula One team Stefan Grand Prix say that they are still looking at ways to enter the sport next season after missing out on a place on the original entry list, but have denied they plan to buy Toyota's spot.

The team, who were one of the potential entries rejected by the FIA when they opened to doors for new teams to come into the sport for next season, have said that they are looking to buy Toyota's 2010 car design from them.

Recent rumours had suggested that the team had bought Toyota's spot on the 2010 grid, with the legal situation over the final spot on the 2010 grid still up in the air as the FIA seeks legal clarification over Toyota's withdrawal.

The theory seems to be that the now-BMWless Sauber team would step in to the spot vacated by the Japanese manufacturer, with the sale of the team back to Peter Sauber set to go through as soon as their place on the grid is confirmed.

The final FIA entry list for 2010 is set to be decided in early December. But it remains possible that Stefan Grand Prix may yet nip it's way into the spot instead.

But Zoran Stefanovich, the team boss of the dodgy team, clarified that he was not looking to buy the grid slot of the Toyota team.

"There is no entry for them [Toyota]," Stefanovich muttered, "We are in the process of evaluating our own plans for next year. We did some sort of agreement with them [Toyota], to take over the F1 project, but I cannot discuss the details at present."

He added that the Serbian team were ready and capable to race in 2010 should the FIA call on them to take a place on the grid.

"We have a complete facility and we have what is required to start testing immediately," he insisted, "There is no question about this.

"There is no reason not to believe that we can do it – and in fact the situation seems to be quite the opposite. F1 will be glad to have a team from this area of the world, as currently its only representation is with the Hungarian Grand Prix. We are on stand-by."
