The newly-reborn Lotus F1 team has a shortlist of four un-named drivers to fill their two seats for next season, according to their Twitter-obsessed team boss Tony Fernandes, despite earlier having said that one driver had already been signed.
The team, one of four new outfits to make their way onto the 2010 grid, are continuing to plan out their first season in the sport, after the historic Lotus name was resurrected by a dubious Malaysian project, after vanishing from the grid at the end of 1994.
And according to Fernandes, they now have a definite list of potential drivers. "Have to decide on four drivers for two seats," he tweeted earlier this week.
According to rampant and sourceless speculation, those four drivers include former Toyota pair Jarno Trulli and Kamui Kobayashi, former BAR and Super Aguri legend Takuma Sato and balding 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve.
Whether or not this means that Fernandes was lying when he tweeted a few weeks ago about the Lotus team having signed their first driver is unclear. But it's possible he meant something really dull like them signing Malaysian A1GP driver Fairuz Fauzy as their reserve or something.
Meanwhile, Jacques Villeneuve's place on the list was backed up by news that he had visited the Lotus team's UK base this week.
The former champion has been undergoing a Rocky-style training regime in Austria in recent weeks as he attempts to get himself physically prepared for a return to the sport he last raced in back in 2006.
"Jacques' visit is an honour for Lotus and Lotus is a team," Lotus CEO Dany Bahar rather confusingly said when asked about his visit.
"Our people are a blend of talent and expertise combined with passion for our brand. Our highlights are theirs, so this is a special day for us all."
