Boobens light on fuel compared to rivals

E-mail Print PDF

Rubens Barrichello was the lightest driver in the qualifying session in Brazil, while his immediate rivals around him on the grid seem set to make his quest for a championship-igniting victory as difficult as possible.

Barrichello may have taken pole position for tomorrow's Brazilian Grand Prix, but managed it with the smallest fuel load of any of the top ten runners, albeit not by much, as the field's fuel spread was constricted by the wet weather.

Barrichello will, though, struggle to stay ahead of the drivers around him on the grid. Second placed Mark Webber, along with third place Adrian Sutil and fourth place Jarno Trulli all seem to have at least two laps on the Brawn GP man.

Meanwhile, Nico Rosberg's vanished pace can only partially be explained by his fuel load, he finished top of the pile in both Q1 and Q2 but ended 7th in Q3 despite being the sixth lightest car. The Williams was, though, set-up for wet running, with Q3 taking place on a drying track.

Further back, the out-of-place McLaren pair look set to keep everyone entertained with their KERS buttons and a pair of light cars, as they try and force their way through the field, while both Jenson Button and Sebastian Vettel start among the heaviest cars on the grid.

Meanwhile, Giancarlo Fisichella joins Sebastian Vettel on a zero-stop strategy, and it is scientifically impossible to fathom precisely what the hell Fernando Alonso was doing.
