Current Ferrari F1 failure Giancarlo Fisichella has said that he might well look to crawl back to his old team at Force India for a drive in 2010, after he decided to aim to continue racing next year despite his new-found position as Ferrari test driver.
Fisichella has his last race for Ferrari at Abu Dhabi this weekend, after scoring a spectacular zero points since joining the team as a stand-in for the injured Felipe Massa in Italy.
His contract included a deal to serve as Ferrari's test and reserve driver in 2010, which seemed to effectively mean that his F1 career was over. But he has had a change of heart recently, and is not hoping to negotiate a race seat with Ferrari's blessing.
Ahead of his last Ferrari race, Fisichella said that he would look at his options for 2010 after the final race of the year on Sunday, but that he would probably not be interested in a drive with a new-for-2010 team.
"After this race we will see what the possibilities are," Fisichella muttered, "We are now just talking about this race.
"So far, I am not thinking of racing with a new team. But if there is a good possibility to race with a team that has experience from the past then I prefer that. But to start from the beginning, like Force India last year, I think is difficult."
As to whether his former employers at Force India will be one of his options, Fisichella said: "Why not? It is open. It could be Force India. There are a lot of teams without drivers so far."
Force India are yet to sign a driver in either one of their seats for 2010, and Adrian Sutil has been linked to a move to Renault to partner Robert Kubica. Fisichella secured the Indian team's best ever F1 result with 2nd in Belgium, the race before he left for Ferrari.
As to his time at Ferrari, Fisichella admitted that ending his run with the team without scoring a point would be a disappointment, which is somewhat obvious.
"It is a bit frustrating," he said about his naff situation, "I would be disappointed, but I am doing my best. It is not easy to jump from Force India and jump to the Ferrari car, which has completely different handling and completely different behaviour.
"I have driven for 14 years in F1 how I want and now I need to change, in braking and downshifting, my style of driving. I am doing my best. In the last couple of races, the race pace was good, the problem was the qualifying session. Here in the long runs I had the same pace as Kimi."
