The Korean Grand Prix organisers have denied that there is any change of them being forced to defer their F1 debut until the 2011 season, saying that the building work on the new Korea International Circuit was still running on time.
The Hermann Tilke-designed 5.621km track, located in Yeongam County, South Jeolla, is set for it's grand prix debut on October 24th this year, the only new event on the 2010 schedule.
And the catchily-titled promoter, Korea Auto Valley Operation, have said that the track was still on target to be completed by the middle of the year, with June or July the target.
"The representative facilities of the circuit are in very good progress," Yung Cho Chung, the CEO of KAVO, bragged.
"The racing track itself is at 70 per cent completion rate and the main grandstand currently stands at 80 per cent.
"The Formula 1 track is now visible. It may be completed in June at the earliest."
The latest of Formula One's Tilkedromes has a seven year deal with the sport, starting this year. KAVO also said that it was aiming to complete the F1 facilities first, with an alternative track layout for other championships being prioritised behind the GP track.
Korean international motorsport has a dubious past, with the now-defunct Champ Car series having to cancel planned races in the country in the middle of the last decade.
