Michael Schumacher today told reporters at the Barcelona circuit that he had been far too eager yesterday to dismiss any chance he had of early season victories, having bothered last night to review the Mercedes data.
As his team mate Nico Rosberg impressed and took P1, Schumacher informed gathering reporters in the paddock: "Yesterday I was a little bit pessimistic before I studied the data. I mentioned it after not having studied the data, afterwards it looks much more reasonable than I thought.
He then went on to reminisce whilst void of any emotion that: "This was just initial feeling, but it looks like maybe we were running more fuel than others yesterday and that's why the time didn't look so good. Looking at the results and the data, it looks very reasonable - not too bad."
Team mate Rosberg set a 1:20:6 today which compares with the same time set by Nico Hulkenberg and Fernando Alonso yesterday, meaning Schumacher can hold off finding a tall building to walk off a little while longer.
When harassed some more by over worked and under paid hacks about who he felt was the team in the best position going into Bahrain in a fortnight, Schumacher made a half arsed attempt at a poker analogy, reflecting in a deadpan tone that: "I don't know who has played all their cards yet. Even with my experience I really struggle. There are several teams that look very competitive.”
With Rosberg’s impressive laptime today and the recent news that Mercedes GP will run a brand spanking new diffuser in Bahrain, thinks look a little rosier for Team Germany-Brackley than they did just a week ago.
