The Cypher Group, a mysterious American-based collection of motorsport professionals, have formally announced their plans to join the Formula One grid in 2010, entering the FIA's tendering process for the 13th grid slot.
Cypher, who not only have a Facebook page but also a Twitter account, which apparently makes them plausible, have also confirmed that they have linked up with American single-seater 'ace' Jonathan Summerton for next year.
Cypher is believed to contain a number of former USF1 employees, the last mysterious American-based team that attempted to join the F1 grid, with hilarious consequences.
The jingoistic Cypher statement read: "We have officially submitted our candidature and hope that we will shortly be selected by the FIA as the 13th entry in the 2011 FIA Formula One World Championship.
"We aspire to bring America's red, white, and blue back into Formula 1."
The move came just hours after the ART Grand Prix team announced their withdrawal from the tendering process to find the 13th Formula One team for 2010.
Meanwhile, the team also confirmed their link-up with Summerton, who used to race in A1GP and was linked heavily with USF1 last year.
"Jonathan is capable of racing against the top Formula 1 drivers and we hope to be able to give him a competitive car," the statement bragged, "We look forward to the opportunity of being on the starting grid in 2011."
Summerton had already broken the news on his own Twitter account earlier in the week, when he typed: "F1 HERE WE COME! All for you fans! Thank you. U [sic] ROCK!"
The Cypher team will face competition from Epsilon Euskadi, Stefan GP and Durango for the 13th grid slot, with the FIA expected to make a decision soon.
