The FIA have finally released the official 2010 Formula One entry list, a mere week or so before the season gets underway in Bahrain, and have left the Stefan GP team off the list, while asking USF1 to reapply for the 2011 season.
The Serbian Stefan GP team had been preparing for the 2010 season despite not having an entry on the provisional list, building their Toyota-based cars and signing Kazuki Nakajima, as well as getting close to a deal with 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve, but their hopes of racing in 2010 seem to have been dashed.
The FIA have decided to limit the 2010 entry list to 24 cars, with new teams Lotus, Virgin and 'Hispania Racing Team', who haven't thought their acronym through at all, joining the nine remaining 2009 teams.
USF1 have also been missed off the list, having confirmed that they had shut down production on their 2010 car yesterday following chronic funding issues.
But the FIA have not accepted their request to defer their entry to 2011, and instead noted that the American team would have to reapply for a spot on the grid next year through the normal tendering process.
A note at the foot of the list stated that "The USF1 Team have indicated that they will not be in a position to participate in 2010".
The FIA clarified that the Stefan GP entry had not been considered as it was not possible to submit a replacement team so close to the start of the new season.
"Having considered the various options, the FIA confirms that it is not possible for a replacement team to be entered for the Championship at this late stage," an FIA statement read.
"In the coming days the FIA will announce details of a new selection process to identify candidates to fill any vacancies existing at the start of the 2011 season."
The entry list also rubber-stamped the Campos team's name change, to the mildly-comical HRT.
The list also confirmed that the Sauber team would compete as "BMW Sauber F1 Team" in 2010, despite having naff-all to do with the German manufacturer, while the FIA also reassigned their entry numbers for the new season to 22 and 23, the numbers formerly occupied by USF1.
