Red Bull preparing for superfast pit stops

The Red Bull team are planning to set the bar high in 2010's refuelling-less pit stop race, with Christian Horner bragging this weekend that the caffeinated team have got their fastest time down to less than two seconds in practice.

With refuelling banned for 2010, the teams have been working hard over the pre-season to try and secure the quickest time for changing four tyres. Earlier in the pre-season, the Williams crew suggeste that the stops would take around three seconds.

But Red Bull, who have been working at a British Olympic training camp in order to sharpen their skills, now apparently have the bar down to around 1.8 seconds to change all four tyres.

"We have done sub-two second stops. They are absolutely lightning," Christian Horner bragged this weekend.

He explained that the team used the Olympic camp at Bisham Abbey in order to train up the 18-man pit crew for the coming season.

"The guys have trained like hell over the winter," he chuckled, "They have all lost weight and got fitter in the process. The guys have been training in the gym at 12 and 4pm every day since November.

"We've always been fast but now there's been a lot more of a scientific approach to the whole issue."

The teams will be forced to change tyres at least once during races in 2010, with each driver still having to use both tyre compounds in accordance with the rules.
