Red Bull team boss has said that his team are keeping calm about their current reliability situation, despite watching a second grand prix victory in a row evaporate through niggling mechanical issues with their new RB6 car.
Sebastian Vettel has been leading both races so far this season comfortably, but ended up failing to win either of them.
In Bahrain, the German was forced to slow his pace and slipped to 4th after a spark plug issue developed in his car. Then on Sunday in Australia he spun out of the lead and into retirement with an issue that has been traced back to a damaged wheel mounting.
But despite watching Vettel's pair of pole positions translate into a mere 12 points, and seeing rivals Ferrari and McLaren move clear of them in the championship, Horner is remaining calm on the issue, saying that the important thing was that the team had a fast car.
"Don't panic – it is a long season," Horner bellowed after the Melbourne race.
"We know we have got a fast car and I would far rather have a fast car than a slow car. We've had two pole positions. We should have been sitting on 50 points and Sebastian is sitting on 12. But there is still a long way to go and the season will have many different twists and turns."
He opined that Vettel still had faith in the RB6, despite the German admitting that seeing another win pass him by was "annoying".
"I think [Vettel] has got complete trust and confidence in the car," Horner guessed nervously, "He has been massively fast all weekend. Unfortunately a reliability issue has cost him a race win this weekend, but he will be back very strong in a week's time."
He added that although seeing a 1-2 qualifying result translate into nothing more than a 9th place for Mark Webber was annoying, the team has taken confidence from their showing in Melbourne, which proved that they seem to have a car advantage over their rivals at the start of the season.
"Starting first and second on the grid, the whole team is pretty pissed off to have only come away with two points," Horner ranted, "But we will brush ourselves down. We take away from here the confidence that again we have a very fast car, and we will work hard on whatever the problem is that caused this issue. We will be stronger in a week's time."
