Prost signs on for Race of Champions

Former four-time Formula One world champion Alain Prost has confirmed that he is set to compete in the season-closing Race of Champions this season, saying that the experience should be an "absolute pleasure" for him.

Prost retired from Formula One after winning his fourth title in 1993 for Williams, but has raced in the French Andros Trophy ice racing championship in recent years, winning the title in 2007 and 2008.

And Prost will now compete, both in the Race of Champions and in the accompanying Nations Cup event for France.

The Frenchman said that it had long been his dream to compete in the event, but his ice racing duties had prevented that from happening until this year.

"I'm very happy to be able to participate in the Race of Champions at last," Prost grinned after the announcement, "In the past the date has always clashed with other commitments like the Andros Trophy ice racing championship, but this year it finally works.

"It will be an absolute pleasure to race with great drivers from different disciplines and different generations. I'm really looking forward to the experience."

The RoC co-organiser Fredrik Johnsson said that the organisation was "thrilled" to have Prost on their line-up for 2010.

"We're thrilled that Alain will make his debut at the Race of Champions in November," he beamed, "He is one of the all-time legends of motor racing so this first appearance at the event is eagerly anticipated and long overdue."

The Race of Champions is switching from the Beijing Olympic Stadium, where it was held in 2009, to the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf for 2010, and will take place over November 27th and 28th.

The only other confirmed entrants for 2010 so far are the superstar German pairing of Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher, the pairing that has won the Nations Cup for the last three years in a row.

DTM driver Mattias Ekstrom won the 2009 Race of Champions.
