McLaren's race engineer Tim Goss has smugly praised the "exceptional" driving manners of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, after the pair enjoyed their own intra-team battle in Turkey and inherited a 1-2 finish when the Red Bull drivers crashed.
In a cheeky swipe at the Red Bull team, following Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel's collision in the race at Istanbul Park, Goss said that he was impressed by the conduct of both of their drivers, despite the pair making slight contact of their own during a fight for position.
"Both our drivers are very, very sensible," Goss smugly declared, "They both handled themselves particularly well on the circuit and with the media.
"We employ them to be aggressive racing drivers. They like to fight; they are both world champions and out to prove they're the best. But the way they have handled themselves on the circuit has been absolutely exceptional so far this year."
He added: "There has been more than one occasion when they have been close to one another like that, and the two of them can race and avoid each other - unlike our next-door neighbours [Red Bull Racing] who clearly threw an easy one-two away."
Goss, clearly not aware of the truism that pride comes before a fall, also took the opportunity to criticise Red Bull even further, saying that the caffeinated team had "not delivered" because of the crash between the pair.
"You've got to have a quick car and you have to get it to the finish," Goss explained.
"In this race Red Bull Racing did not deliver, and they've not delivered because their two drivers are racing. Our two drivers were racing, but I think that just shows how well our two drivers can manage themselves on the circuit."
Neither of the McLaren drivers had anything bad to say about the other one's driving after the Turkish race, after Hamilton had secured his first win of the season from Button. Hamilton indicated in the post-race press conference that the result showed that the team will fight for the championship this season.
"Red Bull made it tough for us and we put up a good fight," Hamilton grinned, "You can see how close it is between the four of us. It's down to momentum, and we will do the best we can to win both championships.
"We have been ragging their tails for some time. It's such an achievement for us, to really be able to take the battle to them. They had one strength that was particularly good here, we had a strength here, and we didn't know how it would pan here."
He added that: "Me and Jenson were able to compete with them and push our hardest to be on their tails. To get our second 1-2 is fantastic."
On the subject of the Red Bull collision, Hamilton arfed that: "It was great to watch. Like watching an action movie in HD or 3D. It was fantastic. I got the best view of it!
"Sebastian is safe, but I just saw Seb go up the inside, Mark held his line and no room to move right, and no reason for Seb to move to the right. It was unfortunate for them and fortunate for us."
Meanwhile, Button also praised the McLaren team after the result, saying that the fight with his team mate had been "fun".
"The pace of our car was very good and it was great to be battling with the Red Bulls," Button grinned in the press conference, "So many times we have seen them disappear into the distance."
He added: "I had a battle with Lewis at the end. We were both told to save fuel but it's always difficult to know how much and when Lewis got back past me I was told to keep saving and I think it got a bit critical towards the end.
"It was fun to battle at the end with Lewis. We got a 1-2 so the team should be happy with the result this weekend. A few weeks ago you could say we might not beable to challenge the Red Bulls, so we have to say thanks to the team."
