Williams technical director Sam Michael has suggested that the ongoing Renault complaints over the need to boost the power of their engine in order to get parity on the grid was "bullshit", saying the team were perfectly competitive as it stands.
Renault and their customer team Red Bull have complained to literally anyone that will listen in recent months regarding the need for them to re-equalise their engines.
The current design freeze on engines prohibits teams making major changes to their power units, but over the course of the last few years, the French squad seem to have slipped behind the likes of Mercedes and Ferrari in terms of raw horsepower.
The Red Bull squad have suggested that the Renault V8 is some 30 horsepower down compared to the Mercedes motor.
But Michael has scoffed at the complaints, suggesting that the teams were simply "lobbying for an upgrade".
He told the German motorsport-total.com website that the claim that the Renault was being unfairly disadvantaged was simply "bullshit".
With regards to their ongoing complaints, he added: "It's simply to gain an advantage."
He added that the performance of the two Renault-powered teams so far this season proved that they were getting little disadvantage from running with the French engine.
"This [Renault] engine has often been on pole position this year. You cannot tell me it has not enough power," Michael bellowed.
He added: "They're just lobbying for an upgrade. That's ok, because it's part of the business. These teams are trying to strengthen their position."
He mused that he felt there was "no more than one or two tenths" of a second between the performance of the four engine units in the sport for 2010 over the course of a single lap.
Michael's Williams team is one of four teams to use the FIA customer Cosworth engine this season, though fellow customers Lotus are set to switch to Renault power for 2011.
Williams were also rumoured to be moving to Renault for 2011, but opted to stay with Cosworth.
