Colin Kolles has parted company with the HRT Formula One team, after reaching an agreement with the Spanish squad, as new owners Thesan Capital seeks a "new direction" with their struggling backmarking outfit.

Kolles will officially leave the team on Thursday after working with them for their first two seasons in the sport.

The team confirmed on Wednesday that the decision had been made after Thesan chose to move the team to a new base of operations in Spain.

Kolles had previously operated the team from his own factory in Germany.

"Spanish outfit HRT F1 Team and Dr. Colin Kolles have reached an agreement to end their cooperation and therefore the Team Principal will abandon his post on the 15th of December 2011," a statement from the team read.

"This is due to the new direction that the team has taken and the decision of the new management to move the team headquarters to Spain."

It added: "HRT F1 Team would like to thank Dr. Colin Kolles for his work and dedication throughout these past two years and wish him the best in his future projects."

Thesan are seeking to play up the Spanish national team aspect of their operation from the start of 2012.

They have already signed Pedro de la Rosa in one seat, and are reportedly seeking a second Spaniard to drive alongside him.

Kolles was drafted in by Jose Ramon Carabante at the start of the 2010 season, after buying the team from Adrian Campos.

He previously worked in F1 for Midland and Spyker, before departing the newly-renamed Force India team at the end of 2008.

Kolles was linked with a move to Williams during the past year, but he remained with HRT until the end of the year.
