Boobens, Liuzzi sweating on 2012 drives

Veteran Formula One drivers Rubens Barrichello and Vitantonio Liuzzi have both admitted that they are still very much unsure of their futures in the sport, with their respective drives still up for negotiation for next season.

Barrichello and Liuzzi's 2011 seats at Williams and HRT respectively are the only two remaining drives still available on the 2012 grid.

Both drivers are still thought to be in the frame, but neither are confirmed, and a number of other drivers have been linked with the drives.

At Williams, the likes of Adrian Sutil and Bruno Senna, as well as Ferrari test driver Jules Bianchi, have been linked with the seat next to Pastor Maldonado.

Meanwhile, HRT are thought to prefer a Spanish pilot over Liuzzi for 2012, as they seek to recruit a home-grown line-up alongside Pedro de la Rosa.

And both drivers have recently admitted that they are still unsure as to their F1 futures.

"I have no plans to stop," the Brazilian driver told the Totalrace website over Christmas.

"I really want to do twenty years in Formula One. Who knows whether a great team will have me and [my career] will go on."

He added: "The passion and the desire are still there, now for the rest but one way or another, I [hope to] be competing."

Meanwhile, Liuzzi has admitted that his future is "uncertain", despite claiming to have a contract with the HRT squad for 2012.

The Italian believes that the recent management changes in the team, with Luis Perez-Sala replacing Colin Kolles as team boss, and new owners Thesan Capital keen to push the Spanish national side of their brand, may have hurt his chances.

He told Totalrace that: "I have a contract to race next season with HRT but the agreement was concluded with the previous owner and now the future is uncertain."

Any number of drivers have been linked with the second HRT seat, including ex-Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari and non-Spanish pay driver Giedo van der Garde.
