Mercedes hoping to continue solid form

The Mercedes GP team are looking to continue their run of solidly average results at the Korean Grand Prix at the Yeongam circuit this weekend, following a strong drive from Michael Schumacher in Japan last time out.

Schumacher secured a 6th place finish in the Japanese Grand Prix last weekend, a result that saw him beat the Ferrari of Felipe Massa to the chequered flag.

It also boosted their status in fourth place of the constructors championship still further, and represented Schumacher's fifth top six finish of the season.

And heading to the next race of the season, Mercedes are looking to continue that sort of pleasingly average form.

We had a good result [in Korean last year] as I equalled my best result of the season, finishing the race in fourth place," grinned Schumacher in the team's Korean GP preview.

"We have enjoyed some encouraging race finishes since the mid-season break, having worked hard to improve our performance. I hope we can carry that trend through to Korea this weekend and then to the remaining races."

His team mate Nico Rosberg added: "I'm looking forward to racing in Korea...I'm certainly aiming for a more successful weekend than last year, when I was taken out in an accident with [Mark Webber].

"We learned in Japan that our performance has taken a small step forward since Singapore. I hope we can make the next one this weekend."

And team boss Ross Brawn said that the team would be aiming to maximise their performance of what they had, with no upgrade parts set for the Korean race.

"We delivered a strong race performance in Suzuka after not the smoothest of weekends, so our focus in Korea will be on getting the most of our current technical package and continuing our recent run of results," he explained.

Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug added: "We enjoyed a stronger weekend in Suzuka and delivered quite a competitive team performance.

"Our challenge will be to perform at this level on a very different type of circuit and, as we have managed at three of the last four races, to finish in the points among the top three teams."

The Mercedes team have amassed 123 points so far in 2011, well clear of their nearest rivals in the fight for fourth place in the championship.

However, they are still searching for their first podium of the season, with Schumacher's fourth place finish in the Canadian Grand Prix the best they have managed.
