The Williams Formula One team have completed a brief secretive shakedown run of their brand new Renault-powered FW34 car in Spain, ahead of the official start of 2012 pre-season testing at the Jerez circuit next week.
According to a report from the Sky Sports website, the Grove-based team confirmed that the test was completed at the Idiada proving ground near Barcelona.
Williams reserve driver Valtteri Bottas completed the run in the new car, with the brief shakedown test allowed by the current strict rules on testing.
No photos were forthcoming from the secretive test, meaning that the look of the team's new car remains a mystery.
The team will officially launch their new car in a low-key manner shortly before the start of testing at Jerez next Tuesday.
The team will then run the FW34 at the four-day test with 2012 race drivers Bruno Senna and Pastor Maldonado at the wheel.
Williams will switch to Renault power for the 2012 season, rekindling the famous partnership that won five constructors titles and four drivers titles between 1989 and 1997.
The team confirmed the switch from Cosworth power last year, becoming the fourth Renault-powered team on the grid.
After recording their worst-ever Formula One season in 2011, the team are hoping that the engine switch, along with an overhaul of their technical staff, will help move them back up the grid this season.
Williams finished down in ninth in the constructors championship last season, scoring just five points.
Williams did not report any issues at the shakedown test conducted by Bottas, who will drive in selected Friday practice cameos for the team throughout the coming season.
